What comes to mind when you hear the term “balance training”? Maybe one-legged stands in yoga, or rehab exercises after an injury. Balance Board Training is both — and much more. It’s one of the most effective ways to combine strength, coordination, endurance, and mobility in a single session. And the best part? No prior experience needed.
What is Balance Board Training?
A balance board is a training device that sits on a movable base — depending on the model, a roller, half-ball, or cushion. Simply standing on it activates a wide range of muscle groups simultaneously, as your body constantly makes small adjustments to maintain balance.
This effect — known as neuromuscular activation — is the real secret behind balance training. You’re not just training the large, visible muscles, but also the deeper stabilizing muscles rarely engaged in regular strength or endurance sessions.
Key benefits of Balance Board Training at a glance
Full-body training in minimal space
Whether it’s abs, legs, glutes, chest, back, or arms — Balance Board Training challenges your entire body. Exercises like squats, push-ups, or planks on the board are significantly more demanding than on a stable surface, as the unstable base activates all involved muscles even more.
Improve coordination and proprioception
Proprioception — your sense of body position in space — is a skill rarely trained in daily life. Balance training sharpens this system: you learn to perceive and control your body more precisely. This helps not just in sports, but in everyday life — fewer trips, improved posture, faster reactions.
Protect joints and ligaments
Studies show that regular balance training significantly improves stability in the ankle, knee, and hip joints. Especially after injury — or to prevent injury — balance training is one of the most effective preventive measures. Many physiotherapists use it intentionally in rehabilitation programs.
Combine strength and endurance
Balance Board Training isn’t just “wobbling”. Depending on the exercise and intensity, it delivers real strength and endurance training. The unstable surface forces your body to work with higher muscle activation — meaning you can achieve the same, or even greater, results with less weight or fewer repetitions.
Adapted to every level
This might be the most rewarding aspect: balance training is scalable. Beginners start with basic standing exercises; advanced users can integrate the board into complex strength routines. The entry barrier is low — and progress comes quickly. Once you notice how much better your body awareness improves, you won’t want to stop.
Balance Board Training at laSuite with instructor Andy
At laSuite, we offer guided Balance Board Training sessions with instructor Andy. The course is intentionally designed for everyone — no prior experience or knowledge of the board required. Andy walks you step-by-step through exercises that challenge your whole body: abs, legs, glutes, chest, back, and arms.
The focus is on four key qualities every athlete — regardless of level — needs:
- Coordination: More precise movements, improved body awareness
- Strength: Targeted activation of all muscle groups, including deep stabilizers
- Endurance: Greater tolerance to load, which transfers to other sports
- Mobility: Greater range of motion, helps prevent injuries
It’s exactly this combination of the four elements in one session that makes the training so effective — and varied. No two classes feel the same.
Who is the course for?
Everyone. Really. Whether you’re stepping into the gym for the first time or have been training for years, everyone benefits. The balance board presents a new challenge to each person — in their own personal way.
If you’ve been training for a while and feel your routine needs a fresh push: this course is exactly what you need. Try something new, challenge your body in unfamiliar ways, and discover how many abilities are still dormant — that’s what makes balance training so special.
The course is suitable for all ages. Coordination, mobility, and strength become increasingly important with age — especially in relation to fall prevention and brain-supported coordination.
